Hi Clare! I’m quite happy to have several projects in progress - even if the the progress is slow and long. I love projects of kinds - I like the ideation of coming up with the idea, the research phase when I learn so many new things, the doing, the shifting of the idea, and eventually the completion. I find that process extremely fulfilling. And sometimes I think I’m in the mood for a particular project, but I’m not - so it’s helpful to have some backups . I remember when my son was an infant and I was on maternity leave with him for over a year - I was really in the mood for a creative project, and I literally just could not think of anything that grabbed my fancy. That was a horrible feeling and I decided just to make being good at early parenting my project, as apparently that was all my brain had the capacity to contemplate! Sounds like you too do well having several ongoing works in progress? :-)
Hi Vanessa! I love your approach to multiple WIPs, and the fact that you’ve been able to incorporate them around motherhood as your son has grown. I totally get that! I have two kids who are 7 and 4, and we have a creative approach to everything (which is one of the reasons why we home ed). I agree that it’s nice to have multiple things to dip into, especially when you’re in a creative rut. It’s hard to trust that process but I’m so glad to hear that your creative energy returned! I’m so inspired by your colour palettes on the go, it’s such a brilliant way to find those creative moments in the everyday ❤️
Thanks much, Clare! Wow home schooling a 7 and 4 year old must be intense and fun and tiring and, and, and... ! (I’m an early childhood teacher, exploring interior design as an additional creative endeavour) Wonderful that creativity is your approach to that huge project!
What a wonderful and meaningful to stitch the mural! Looking forward to seeing progress over the months! And I adore the Santa letter! Last year I thought about sewing an Advent calendar for my son, which I didn’t get around to. Now I’m thinking about a sewing/embroidery Advent calendar. First I need to learn how to do both ;-D, but as you touched upon in this or a previous post... having a big project to work towards is so gratifying and exciting.
Thank you so much, Vanessa! I think it will be a long term passion project, but I love dipping in and out of it. I started a quilted panel advent calendar a few years ago and you’ve reminded me that I need to finish that too - let’s see if I can get it done this month?! 🤣 I love your idea for your project too! And that you’re not letting the sewing or embroidery put you off, it’s great to just go for it! How do you feel about WIPs? Does it put you off when you have lots or do you work well with a few things on the go?
